Too often in our state, the interests of the well-connected and well-heeled outweigh those of us who are working hard to support ourselves and our families. North Carolina should be a state that puts families first.
Without a fair playing field, many North Carolinians can no longer afford adequate child care, which now costs more per year than tuition at a four-year public college. The super-rich can always afford rising costs, but what about the state’s hardest workers? Nurses, family farmers, teachers — there are too many of us who can’t keep up with the rising costs of child care. We need quality child care options and paid family leave policies that allow us to put our families first when we most need it. No one should suffer financial just to care for their families and raise their children.
