A few years ago, special interest groups representing large corporations across the country blocked a federal law guaranteeing overtime pay for salaried employees working more than 40 hours per week. Even though Washington can’t get its act together to support hard working Americans, North Carolina can pass a law requiring all corporations pay overtime to those who have earned it.
Well-paid lobbyists should not be able to tilt the scales even further for greedy corporations. Many corporate CEOs are already making 300 times more than their average employee. With corporate profits at an all-time high and employees working more than ever, it is only fair that we are paid for the work we are doing.
